From Towson to TV: How Rondy Griffin is Shaping the Media Landscape
Rondy Griffin, G. Grant Griffin Media

(BALTIMORE – July 6, 2025) – For years now, Rondy Griffin has been quietly mastering the media game. In fact, I might’ve been one of his earliest test subjects. Back in the day, he crafted marketing packages for BMORENews during our foundational years. Media, marketing, and advertising come naturally to Rondy—skills that were first sharpened many moons ago at MCI, the legendary telemarketing hub in Towson that gave countless young Black professionals their start. That office was a launching pad for dreams, a proving ground where many, including our late brother Marcellus Anthony Williams (a.k.a. Marty), laid the groundwork for future greatness. Since Marty earned his wings 12 years ago, Rondy and I have continued to build—culminating in the launch of G. Grant Griffin Media this past December.

Our team includes Dr. Vonnya Pettigrew, Marc Clarke, and myself. Together, we’ve formed what we call DMV

Rondy Griffin of G. Grant Griffin Media and LaRian Finney of The Finn Group

Media—a collective of distinct voices with complementary talents. Dr. Pettigrew, host of “Market Place,” is a trailblazer in entrepreneurship and a community builder in East Harbor, where she quite literally “bought the block.” Marc Clarke needs no introduction. We all remember his days with 92Q’s Big Phat Morning Show alongside Troy, Marva, and Sonjay. Since then, he’s rocked the airwaves in New York, D.C., and Baltimore, and now hosts “The Good News Show.” And then, there’s my show.

In just seven months of programming on WMAR-TV 2, we’ve built key strategic partnerships and presented content that resonates deeply. Thanks to Rondy’s vision, G. Grant Griffin Media has covered major events like the 2025 CIAA Tournament, the Afro-American Newspaper’s “Who’s Who in Black Baltimore”, the Baltimore Times’ “Best of Black Baltimore Awards”, the Visit Baltimore CIAA 2029 Extension Press Conference, Bowie State University’s Homecoming, AfroPreak, and Jazzy Summer Nights, just to name a few. Entertainment icon LaRian Finney has been a true inspiration for Rondy.

We’ve touched every layer of our community—from CEOs to small business owners, from artists to athletes, and everyday people just making it happen. What brings me the most joy is amplifying Black-owned businesses across the Greater Baltimore-Washington region, especially in the DMV corridor we know so well.

That corridor—from Baltimore City (home to roughly 340,000 Black residents) to Baltimore County (~274,500), to Washington, D.C. (~303,600), and anchored by Prince George’s County (~607,600)—represents one of the most powerful concentrations of Black people in the United States. Economically strong, politically influential, and culturally vibrant, this region is home to professionals, educators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers who move the needle daily.

It’s also produced a remarkable legacy of leadership: Maryland’s first Black Governor Wes Moore, First Lady Dawn Moore, Maryland Treasurer Dereck Davis, former Lt. Governor Michael Steele, former Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford, Speaker of the House Adrienne Jones, and Attorney General Anthony Brown, the first African American elected to that post in Maryland’s history. And let’s not forget icons like Congressman Parren J. Mitchell, Senator Tommy Broadwater, Mayor-for-Life Marion Barry, and Wayne Curry, Prince George’s first Black county executive.

Our team has been intentional about covering this rich and expansive ground. From Dr. Aminta Breaux at Bowie State to Dr. Anthony Jenkins at Coppin State, from P. David Bramble, the visionary behind Baltimore’s Harborplace redevelopment, to Curtis J. Myers, CEO of Fulton Bank—we are telling our stories, our way. Many thanks to Frank Johnson of Frank & Par’rish Johnson Media, Calvin Watkins of Chosen Media, Charlyn Nater of the Baltimore Mainstreets, Saidah Spinner, Princess Williams, Jacqui Cummings, Diane Bell McKoy, Joey Brown of Joseph Brown Funeral Homes, Jaida Scarborough, Dr. Alvin Hathaway, Dr. Tyrone Taborn of STEM CITY USA, the Career Communications Group Family, Marsha Jews, Marvin, Nephew, and everyone else who help make this thing work.

So yes, Rondy Griffin deserves his flowers. He believed in us when few did, and that belief is bearing fruit. The journey is just beginning—and trust me, we’re just getting warmed up.

Stay tuned. Bigger things are coming.
