(RANDALLSTOWN – October 30, 2026) – There’s an old saying: the best way to expose a dirty glass is to hold up a clean one. For me, that clean glass is Julian Jones.
I met Julian in 2008 at Hernwood Elementary School, where he was PTA president and I led the Hernwood Heights Community Association. We both came from the grassroots. We worked together to get the school an electronic sign, the kind of work that tells you who shows up.
He ran for County Council in 2010 and came up short, but he didn’t walk away. In 2014, he won, becoming the second African American to represent the Fourth District on the council. I was proud to work on both campaigns.
Those were busy years. Our holiday gatherings grew from 20 people in 2006 to sellouts every year after we formed the Combined Community Advocacy Council of Greater Randallstown (CCACGR) in 2010. In 2018, Julian backed my winning run for the Baltimore County Democratic Central Committee. Real leadership doesn’t hoard the table. It pulls up more chairs.
His council colleagues elected him chair four times. You earn that kind of trust by being prepared, being fair and keeping your word.
In June, Julian won the Democratic primary for Baltimore County Executive, a historic moment for all of us. But the work isn’t finished. Turn out in the general election and finish what we started.
That’s the clean glass. Hold it up this Tuesday.
