TGR: Where is America Headed?
USA

(WASHINGTON – March 19, 2025)—Welcome to your America. This country allegedly overwhelmingly voted for Donald Trump as president. While many support his recent political efforts, others are deeply concerned about the country’s direction.

Around the world, nations are observing as the U.S. seemingly dismantles government agencies and displays a growing disregard for what was once considered the greatest democracy in the world. We were promised a shift in leadership, and it appears we’ve gotten it.

I’ve never seen a U.S. president as close with a Russian leader as Trump is with Vladimir Putin. Trump’s business ties with Putin’s Russia are raising serious questions, and similarly, Elon Musk’s business dealings with China are also under scrutiny.

The Trump administration is resisting a federal judge’s request for details on recent deportation flights conducted under the Alien Enemies Act. U.S. District Judge James Boasberg ordered the government to provide information about the flights, but the DOJ pushed back, calling the request unnecessary. This dispute arose from concerns that the administration may have ignored Boasberg’s order halting certain deportations, with the government insisting the flights were out of U.S. airspace before the ruling took effect.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued a rare statement defending judicial independence after Trump called for the impeachment of Judge Boasberg for blocking a deportation policy. Trump’s allies have increasingly pushed for the impeachment of judges over rulings unfavorable to the administration, though Roberts emphasized the appellate process as the proper way to address judicial disagreements.

The Trump administration has also taken drastic actions to curb independent news sources, including effectively shutting down Voice of America (VOA) by placing over 1,000 journalists on indefinite leave, halting most operations at the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). The move, which the White House claims addresses “radical propaganda,” has drawn sharp criticism from press freedom advocates who warn it harms global access to independent news and strengthens authoritarian regimes.

In another blow to the federal workforce, the Trump administration struggles to reverse the mass firings of over 24,000 probationary employees after court rulings found the terminations violated federal law. While some agencies reinstate employees, the administration continues to appeal, arguing that the rulings undermine executive authority.

The case of Camila Muñoz, a Peruvian immigrant detained by ICE after overstaying her visa due to pandemic-related travel restrictions, highlights ongoing concerns over the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies. Her detention underscores broader issues as ICE continues to detain non-criminal immigrants.

Trump has also come under fire for his demand for the impeachment of Judge James Boasberg, following the judge’s rulings that blocked deportations of Venezuelan gang members. Chief Justice Roberts rebuked Trump, emphasizing that impeachment should not be used to address disagreements with judicial decisions.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a project created by Trump, has sparked controversy. DOGE, despite operating outside of traditional government structures, has been accused of overreach, with Musk reportedly gaining access to sensitive federal data. Critics, including Sen. Chuck Schumer, have raised concerns about Musk’s unchecked influence, warning it could lead to a constitutional crisis.

Lastly, Russian media celebrated the recent phone call between Presidents Trump and Putin, viewing it as a diplomatic victory for Russia. The call ended without significant concessions from Putin, who set out his own preconditions for peace, including halting Western military aid to Ukraine. Moscow is also trying to entice the U.S. with economic incentives, hoping to shift Trump’s priorities away from Ukraine and toward strengthening U.S.-Russia relations.

The trajectory of America under Trump remains uncertain, with a growing concentration of power and increasing disregard for democratic norms and judicial independence. As the world watches, the future of U.S. governance and its global relationships continues to unfold.
