TGR: A Week of Celebration: From WEAA to BMORENews.com
Doni Glover guest hosted for Dr. Kay last week on WEAA 88.9 FM

By Doni Glover, Publisher, BMORENews.com
News Director, STEM CITY USA

(BALTIMORE – August 13, 2023) – It has been stated many times over that if you do what you love, you never have to work a day in your life. I don’t know about you, but my vocation called me way back in elementary school.

Mr. Kermit Williams, our 5th and 6th-grade teacher, managed the school’s morning broadcast at Matthew Alexander Henson Elementary in West Baltimore. And yes, you got it! I was right there front and center doing the announcements. It wouldn’t be long before I was quoted in the local daily with then-classmate Christopher Olson (the only white kid in the school) on our love for Native American history. That soon led to television: “Bob Turk and the Sunshine Kids” on WJZ TV 13. And then, somewhere around my fifth and final year at James Mosher Baseball, the All-Stars of the league got the sacred opportunity to meet Brooks Robinson at Memorial Stadium for a segment on “Evening Magazine”. Man, I was flying high!

By the age of 15, Charlie Dugger took me on WEAA 88.9 FM. And, to say the least, the rest is history.

This past week, I had the blessing of sitting in for Dr. Kay as she took a much-needed vacation. For four days, I had the wonderful chance to host and speak with some pretty interesting people on some very pertinent topics.

For the record, BMORENews.com has had a 5-point agenda since we first began in 2002: Black business, public education – particularly in the area’s majority Black jurisdictions, returning citizens’ services, affordable housing, and universal access to health care.

I had a ball!

And then, on Thursday, some very dear friends and supporters convened out at Colin’s Seafood for BMORENews’ 21st Birthday. Special thanks to Dante and the Colin’s family for doing the darn thing once again! (SEE PICS)

Speaker of the House Adrienne Jones attended and brought a proclamation. Delegate Cheryl Pasteur, educator extraordinaire, attended. Jerome Stephens – representing Sen. Ben Cardin – came with his lovely wife. And, former state Senator John Pica came bearing gifts.

Also in the house was Christopher R. Lundy, Esq., Director, Mayor’s Office of Small and Minority Business Advocacy & Development, and former Mayor of Baltimore Sheila Dixon.

I sold books, ate like a horse, and simply basked in the love that filled the room. Marsha Jews brought us to tears of joy with her passionate words. Pam Reaves gave support as only a true believer can. Kenny Brown of the Northwest Voice Newspaper and Paris Brown of the Baltimore Times Newspaper came as ever-present reminders of our role as members of the Black Press.

I could not ask for more. ‘Shout out’ to Tut Shoots’ Brittany Hector and her sister, Aubrey, as they represented the Hector Family. They are the granddaughters of my late friend, Ms. Dottie Hector. Dottie supported my efforts all the time and we miss her so.

Minister C. D. Witherspoon prayed for us and invoked my late father’s name (Donald E. Glover). Ase’!

I just have to say “THANK YOU” to my hometown for loving on me. It’s not easy to report the news day in and day out. But with the right people at our side, and God in our hearts – we can do anything but fail.

So, if any of you are seeking your purpose – seeking what it is God put you here to do, consider that it is something that you love to do and would do even without pay. That, my friends, is your purpose.

On that note, the next Black Wall Street event featuring the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards is Wednesday, August 23rd (6-8 pm) at Terra Café Bmore at 101 E. 25th Street. RSVP to Blackwallstreetbmore.eventbrite.com.

PS

Thank you to my Queen for the balloons and the cake – but most of all for the love. So sweet! Thank you also to Dr. Tyrone Taborn of STEM CITY USA for believing in me.
