Five Mualimmak to Be Honored at Black Wall Street CHELSEA in New York City
Mr. Five Mualimmak

Human rights activist, artist, and organizer recognized for his leadership on justice, reentry, and human dignity

(NEW YORK, NY – March 31, 2026) — Black Wall Street CHELSEA will honor Mr. Five Mualimmak, a prominent human rights activist, artist, and organizer whose life’s work has been dedicated to challenging the carceral state and uplifting people directly impacted by incarceration.

The event will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 4 to 6 PM at 135 West 20th Street, Suite 302, New York, NY.

Born into a legacy of resistance and service as the child of Black Panther Party members, Five Mualimmak has continued that tradition through a lifetime of advocacy, institution-building, and organizing. His work stands at the intersection of human rights, justice reform, and community empowerment.

A Columbia University Scholar, Five is the founder of the OPCAT United Nations Human Rights Project and several nonprofit organizations serving those directly impacted by incarceration and systemic injustice. He also founded the Incarcerated Nation Network, a collective of projects operating under the National Alumni Association of the Black Panther Party NY.

For years, Five Mualimmak has been a consistent and courageous voice for those too often ignored by mainstream systems — particularly the formerly incarcerated, the marginalized, and families navigating the harsh realities of imprisonment and reentry. His work reflects not only advocacy, but vision: a commitment to transforming pain into policy, survival into strategy, and lived experience into leadership.

Five was nominated by Victor Pate, L.E. Chaplain, a longtime ally in our efforts to celebrate New Yorkers making a difference. Pate has supported these efforts for more than a dozen years and previously invited me to speak at the National Action Network NYC Chapter 2nd Chance Committee forum focused on the formerly incarcerated.

Pate serves as Chairman of the National Action Network NYC Chapter 2nd Chance Committee and Co-Director of the New York Campaign for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement (NYCAIC).

Black Wall Street CHELSEA continues the BMORENews tradition of recognizing leaders, builders, and change agents who are moving our communities forward through purpose, sacrifice, and impact. In honoring Five Mualimmak, we salute a man whose work embodies courage, consciousness, and an unshakable commitment to human dignity.
