(WASHINGTON, DC – March 16, 2024) – The National Hip-Hop Museum (NHHM) will celebrate eight legends of Hip-Hop and receive a very special honor at its Grand Induction Ceremony taking place on Apr. 4, from 5 to 10 p.m., at the Recording Industry Association of America headquarters in the national’s capital.
Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys, Roxanne Shante, The Fat Boys, DJ Hurricane, The B-Boys, Queen Lisa Lee, and MC Sha Rock will be inducted into the Museum’s Hall of Fame – participating in a live podcast panel with Master Gee (hip-hop pioneer and NHHM executive director) and Jay Quan (noted lecturer, narrator, writer and NHHM historian) and getting bestowed by Quan and Grandmaster Caz (rapper, songwriter, DJ and NHHM board chair) with a custom trophy, custom NHHM jackets and fat lace hats by (Neil Taylor, NHHM fashion director), commemorative cassette necklace and more cool swag.
The Museum will display many of its rare, one-of-a-kind, and priceless RIAA Gold, Platinum & Diamond albums from the biggest names in Hip-Hop at the ceremony and will add Hip-Hop’s only official document to its permanent collection. KRS-ONE and Temple of Hip-Hop will present The Hip-Hop Declaration of Peace, which it recognizes hip-hop as an international culture of peace and prosperity and was presented to the United Nations on May 16, 2001. It details 18 guiding principles of hip-hop and has been signed by UNESCO and over 300 Hip-Hop activists, pioneers, and UN delegates.
“The fact that Hip-Hop’s ‘Teacha,’ KRS-One, has entrusted The National Hip-Hop Museum with the culture-only sacred document moves me beyond words, and we cherish the opportunity to protect and archive this living document always and forever,” said NHHM Founder and Collector Jeremy Beaver.
Adding to the excitement…DJ DVIOUS (DJ, producer, and NHHM lead fabricator) will create a custom cake to resemble an RIAA Platinum plaque live at the event, Kevin “Scene” Lewis (NHHM’s resident artist) will do live hip-hop painting, DJ RBI (NHHM music director) will lead a Hip-Hop Mix & Mingle, and KRS-ONE will perform a medley set.
