MEET LAQUIDA CHANCEY OF SMALLTIMORE HOMES
Spelman College Alumni LaQuida Chancey

By Chap Loveless

(BALTIMORE – March 5, 2023) – Smalltimore Homes is a revolutionary non-profit organization founded by Spelman College Alumni, LaQuida Chancey. They provide innovative community equity solutions in Baltimore City. Utilizing tiny homes concepts to create micro shelters, Smalltimore Homes provides housing security solutions to individuals who are experiencing homelessness in Baltimore. Chancey also addresses many other inequities plaguing our communities of color from the housing, digital divide, food access issues, and proactive health awareness.

LaQuida Chancey originally created Smalltimore Homes as an answer to Baltimore’s housing insecurity problem, which is particularly acute among the city’s homeless population. She noticed that many homeless individuals were being overlooked and underserved in Baltimore City. By providing them with transitional housing and resources, and eventually affordable tiny homes, Chancey hopes to reduce this visible homelessness issue and help those who are struggling to find housing security.

Not only do the tiny homes provide physical shelter, they also provide emotional and psychological stability offering hope and leading to confidence and restoration of the individual being served. Chancey notes that in addition to providing housing, Smalltimore Homes also plans to provide wrap-around services such as counseling services, food access, job opportunities, and community events for those living in their villages. This helps create a sense of belonging and community, which is often missing in the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness.

Smalltimore Homes has received recognition from media outlets such as CNN and The New York Times, and it has grown to become a well-known advocate for housing insecurities in Baltimore City. It has also provided hope and resources to many individuals who might have otherwise been overlooked or left without a safe and secure place to live.

By actively and consistently addressing racial and economic inequity and injustice in Baltimore, Smalltimore Homes is making a positive difference in Baltimore City. If you’d like to get involved and help support their mission, you can donate or volunteer your time by visiting Smalltimorehomes.org.

LaQuida Chancey can also be seen every Monday at 7 pm on Shared Space presented on BlackUsa.News Facebook and Youtube LIVE.

CONGRATULATIONS!
