ENDORSEMENT ALERT: State’s Attorney Ivan Bates backs Sheila Dixon for Baltimore Mayor
S.A. Bates endorses Dixon for Mayor of Baltimore

(BALTIMORE – April 8, 2024) – Today, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates endorsed Sheila Dixon for Mayor, saying, “Mayor Dixon is the only person in this race who has a proven track record of lowering homicides and violent crime to historic levels and reducing quality of life crimes, leading to one of the safest periods in our city’s history.”

Dixon told Bates she was “grateful for your leadership, humbled by your endorsement, and looking forward to joining you as a partner in this effort as Mayor of this great city.”

Dixon described Baltimore as a City that “continues to grapple with a level of crime that threatens our progress and stifles our potential.”  She continued, “What we are missing is a mayor who has the insight, the experience, and the collaborative leadership to work hand in hand with our partners to address this urgent issue.”

Just last week, Bates announced the takedown of a group of twenty juveniles, ranging in age from 12 to 17, who are accused of 53 crimes that terrorized Baltimore’s neighborhoods and included armed carjackings, assaults, and armed robberies.

He has remained steadfast in his goal of holding offenders of any age accountable for their actions and has clearly stated that this includes holding accountable the parents of Baltimore’s youth if they contribute to the delinquency of a minor child.

Both Dixon and Bates described the urgent need for “leadership that is ready to unite us in purpose and move in partnership to make our city safe.”

State’s Attorney Bates joins a growing roster of Baltimore leaders, including Councilmember Eric Costello (11th District) and Del. Rosenberg (D-41), who have thrown their support behind the Sheila Dixon for Mayor campaign. Fmr. Mayor Sheila Dixon, who previously served as the first woman elected Mayor of Baltimore, has continued to outperform the incumbent Mayor Scott in the polls.
