Who is Dwayne?

In his words …

DWAYNE RENAL SIMS: EXECUTIVE PRODUCER/DIRECTOR/ACTOR/HISTORIAN

Dwayne was Executive Producer/Producer of the film project “Their Time Has Finally Come”, covering the story behind sculptor Kentucky native Ed Hamilton who design and created the United States Colored Troops statue “Spirit of Freedom”.  The 9-foot bronze statue features three infantrymen and a sailor defending freedom on one side and a soldier with his family on the other, salute to the 209,145 members of the United States Colored Troops.

Dwayne’s dream as a child came true when he was Executive Producer of the “Black Women’s Legacy”, Producer Curtis King, staring renowned actresses Esther Rolle, Marla Gibbs, Tonia Stewart, and Phyliss Stickney at the Historic Lincoln Theater in the District of Columbia.  Dwayne invited several youths from Brown Elementary School as his special guests to the play.  Esther and Marla also visited one of his adopted schools, Forestville Elementary in Prince George’s County, MD.

Airing October 2020, he also served as a historian consultant on the 4 Part TBS feature film “Field of Dreams Deferred”, just a glimpse of the untold stories of the Negro Leagues in American baseball history aired during the 2020 American League Championship the Houston Astros managed by Dusty Baker.

Sims background is using his gifts and being self-taught but continues with his hands-on experience working with several different projects, including funding his endeavors.  Partnering with local news media, I share my research of history.

Over the years growing up in Maryland, several individuals from the state have participated in my journey supporting our youth path to success, including Lt. Governor Kathleen Townsend, Senator Barbara Mikulski, Lt. Governor Michael Steele, County Executive Wayne Curry, and others.  We’ve featured actresses Esther Rolles, Marla Gibbs, and Tonea Stewart; Fred Barry (ReRun), former Harlem Globetrotters, and Sugar Ray Leonard. In 2015, the late renowned Harlem Globetrotter Meadowlark Lemon went to lunch with both the young ladies and young men basketball teams for Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. (A Tuskegee Airman Purple Heart) who was my physician growing up, and Frederick Douglas High School basketball teams.

Renal Publishing – Publisher

Published works of Art by renowned artist John Holyfield’s “Family Reunion” which commemorates, the National Council of Negro Women’s (NCNW) Black Family Reunion, 10th-anniversary celebration.

March 2011 Dwayne’s new book release Scurlock “Negro Leagues” featuring photographs from the Scurlock Studio Records, Archive Center, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, and exhibition tour is scheduled for the DMV metropolitan area.  The book features photographs taken at Griffith Stadium where Negro League games were played and is the first time presented in a publication.
