MILFORD MILL, MD — Community leader and longtime public servant Aaron J. Barnett will be among the honorees recognized this Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Black Wall Street MILFORD MILL, hosted by BMORENews at Island Quizine (8128 Liberty Road) from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event will feature the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards, celebrating individuals whose leadership and commitment continue to strengthen Baltimore’s communities and institutions.

A distinguished U.S. Navy veteran, Barnett has spent decades working directly with residents, families, seniors, and young people throughout Baltimore County, building a reputation for accessibility, practical leadership, and a hands-on approach to community service.

Since 2010, Barnett has served as President of the Powhatan Farms Improvement Association, where he works closely with residents, public safety officials, and local agencies to address neighborhood concerns, improve stability, and advocate for resources that enhance quality of life. His leadership philosophy centers on listening first, building consensus, and delivering solutions that reflect community needs.

Barnett also serves as President of the Woodlawn High School National Alumni Association, helping to strengthen alumni engagement, support mentorship opportunities, and promote greater community investment in education. His commitment to young people extends further through his mentorship of students in Baltimore County Public Schools and his work as Executive Director of R-BLOCK Inc., a nonprofit mentoring initiative dedicated to helping youth overcome barriers through guidance, life-skills development, and educational support.

His service spans numerous civic and faith institutions. Barnett is a trustee at Rising Sun First Baptist Church, a board member of Neighbor Space of Baltimore County, and Vice President of Woodlawn Recreation & Parks, where he supports expanded youth programming, recreation access, and community development opportunities. He also previously served as the community representative on the board of the Woodlawn Senior Center, advocating for programs and services that support older adults.

Barnett’s leadership also includes strong ties to the labor movement. He previously served as Vice President of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 333 at the Port of Baltimore and Vice President of AFSCME Local 557, where he represented working families and advocated for fair wages, workplace safety, and strong labor protections.

A lifetime member of the NAACP and longtime member of the Jewish Community Center, Barnett has received numerous honors recognizing his community impact, including the Baltimore County MLK Content of Character Award and the NAACP Outstanding Community Service Award.

Barnett is also currently a candidate for Baltimore County Council District 4, bringing his decades of neighborhood leadership and civic engagement into the arena of public office.

A loving husband and proud father of four, Barnett believes that effective leadership begins with trust, transparency, and accountability. His career reflects a consistent mission: bringing people together, solving problems, and ensuring that government and institutions truly serve the communities they represent.

BMORENews is proud to recognize Aaron J. Barnett at Black Wall Street MILFORD MILL, an event dedicated to celebrating leadership, entrepreneurship, and community excellence across the Baltimore region.
