Award Recognizes Decade of Service to Baltimore’s Youth and Neighborhoods

(BALTIMORE – February 4, 2025) – Braxton C. Street, a School Improvement & Grants Specialist for Baltimore City Public Schools and lifelong Baltimore resident, will be recognized at the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards on December 5th at the Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center. The honor celebrates his unwavering commitment to educational equity and community development across Baltimore.

RSVP to doniglovelive.eventbrite.com.

A proud graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Street has built a career dedicated to advancing opportunities for Baltimore’s youth. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Morehouse College and Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University, he spent over a decade as a certified and tenured educator, most recently teaching 5th grade at Furman L. Templeton Preparatory Academy #125. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Urban Educational Leadership at Morgan State University.

“Braxton represents the best of Baltimore – someone who received an excellent education and chose to stay home and invest in the next generation,” said Doni Glover, founder of the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards. “His work touches every level of our education system, from the classroom to district-wide policy.”

In his current role, Street works daily to advance educational equity and excellence across Baltimore City Public Schools. But his impact extends far beyond school buildings. As Vice President of the Ashburton Area Community Association, he is a hands-on leader in his own neighborhood. An Executive Board Member of Trash Free Maryland, he can often be found participating in neighborhood clean-ups or shopping at local farmers markets.

Street’s civic portfolio is extensive. He serves on the executive boards of Baltimoreans for Educational Equity and Trash Free Maryland, and is an active member of the Greater Baltimore Urban League, the Baltimore Branch of the NAACP, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He is a Past Master of St. Johns Lodge No. 5 – Prince Hall Free & Accepted Masons and a past Vice President of the Baltimore Teachers Union. He also serves as an elected member of the District 40 Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee.

His commitment to youth development extends to the athletic field, where he has volunteered as a high school football coach, mentoring young men through sports and life lessons.

Raised in Union Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Vernon Dobson and Rev. Dr. Alvin C. Hathaway Sr., Street’s service ethic is deeply rooted in faith and community tradition.

When he’s not working to improve Baltimore schools or leading community initiatives, Street enjoys the simple pleasures of Baltimore life – singing karaoke, dining at local restaurants, and connecting with neighbors.

The Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards, now in its 14th year, has recognized over 3,000 entrepreneurs and community leaders across nine cities. The December 4th event celebrates BMORENews.com’s 23rd anniversary of independent community journalism.
