UPDATE: Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program
UPDATE: Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program
Upcoming Activities

Demolition

Contractors for the Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program are scheduled to begin demolition at 2022-2036 W Lanvale St on or about February 12, 2025 and at 2235 Edmondson Ave on or about February 17, 2025. The on-site work will begin with the installation of a steel project fence with screening. This safety measure is intended to keep adjacent property owners safe from construction activity.

Amtrak is committed to conducting this work in a manner that is least disruptive to the community. For your safety, we ask that you please keep all children and pets away from the construction area.

During construction, you can expect the following:

  • Workers and construction vehicles in and around the construction site
  • Increased noise levels, consistent with typical construction activity
  • Intermittent closure of sidewalks and walkways
  • Temporary parking restrictions, when needed

Deep Well Installation

On or about February 17, 2025, crews will begin drilling to install deep wells at the construction site located at 710 N. Pulaski Street. This will lower the water table for the future shaft excavation at the same site. All work will be conducted on-site within the fenced area.

Residents can expect:

  • An increase in contractors in the area
  • An increase in construction equipment, noise, and dust

Ongoing Activities

  • Crews continue to conduct surveys, complete preconstruction inspections, install instrumentation and monitoring devices, and complete utility investigations and relocations throughout the project area.
  • Crews will continue to install water lines along N. Payson, N Pulaski, N Brice and W Lanvale Sts. Expect possible lane closures and an increase in truck traffic in the area. No interruptions to water service are expected during the water line installations. If this should change and a customers’ water needs to be interrupted, we will contact customer the same day.

As a part of the utility relocations in the N Payson area, crews will be performing meter connection tie-ins, which will require planned water outages in the 1900 block of Lafayette Avenue on or about February 24, 2025, for approximately one or two hours. Impacted homes will receive additional notification prior to the shut-off.

PLEASE NOTE:

Crews generally work Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm, weather permitting. Construction activities are subject to change and modifications to the schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.
