(BALTIMORE – March 2, 2025)
 – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of legendary neo-soul singer and artist Angie Stone, who lost her life in a car accident on her way to perform at the tournament. Ms. Stone was scheduled to perform at the halftime show of the CIAA Men’s Championship Basketball Game at 4:00 PM. In honor of her legacy, CIAA Chaplain Pastor Jerome Barber led a moment of silence and prayer before a somber stadium filled with fans.

CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams-Parker released the following statement:

“We are heartbroken over the untimely loss of Angie Stone, an award-winning artist, a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and a dedicated community activist, role model, and mother. Her soulful voice and uplifting spirit left an unforgettable impact on her community, our nation, and the world. Through her immense talent and passion, she inspired and brought hope to many. On behalf of the entire CIAA family, we extend our deepest condolences and stand in support of all those mourning this tremendous loss.”

“This year marks a monumental milestone for the CIAA and women’s sports as we honor the trailblazing athletes who have shaped its legacy,” said Commissioner McWilliams-Parker. “The Food Lion CIAA Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournament is more than a competition—it is a celebration of the dedication of our member institutions, the resilience of our student-athletes, and the vibrant culture of our HBCU community.
