This unforgettable evening will feature the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards, an ongoing tradition by BMORENews since 2011. The awards have honored nearly 3,000 Black entrepreneurs, professionals, and their allies in nine major U.S. cities.

The event marks Doni Glover’s 60th birthday and supports BMORENews’ ongoing work, including our award-winning TV show, podcast, and the continued recognition of Black excellence. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Bea Gaddy Center for its vital community service.

Honorees include Michael Elliott Cryor.

Who is Michael?

Michael E. Cryor is President of The Cryor Group, a business consulting firm serving both the public and private sectors. His work has benefited some of the largest corporations and prestigious public sector organizations in the world.

In health and education, some of his clients and institutions include Kaiser Permanente, the University of Maryland Medical System, the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Catalyst Healthcare REIT, and Teva Pharmaceuticals. He also served as a psychologist and Director of the Department of Consultation and Education at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and as an Associate Dean at Morgan State University.

He is a former member of the Board of Directors for two Exelon utilities -Baltimore Gas & Electric and Pepco Holding Inc. He serves as a consultant and advisor to numerous corporate leaders and executives. He was the lead local advisor to Exelon in support of its multi-billion-dollar acquisition of Constellation.

Cryor is a former Executive Vice President for Susan Davis International, a Washington-based public affairs firm where he represented Fortune 500 companies and a broad range of national policy and public affairs initiatives.

As a former Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party, Cryor is nationally recognized for various roles in state and national elective politics. This includes serving as the deputy campaign manager for former President Biden’s first presidential run in 1987. He was also a Special Assistant to the late Congressman Parren J. Mitchell, the father of the federal minority set-aside 8-A program. He has also held various positions in both chambers of the United States Congress.

He is well remembered as the co-host of On Time, one of WJZ-TV’s most celebrated and long-running public affairs television programs.

Cryor is Chair Emeritus of the Board of Visitors for the University of Maryland School of Medicine, a member of the Hippodrome Foundation Board, and a former member of the Board of Governors for the Baltimore Center Club.

Mr. Cryor earned his bachelor’s degree in experimental psychology from Morgan State University and a master’s degree in developmental psychology from Montclair State University. He remains ABD as a doctoral candidate in environmental psychology at the City University of New York. In addition to his earned degrees, Mr. Cryor has been awarded three Honorary Doctorates, along with a significant number of Lifetime Achievement recognitions.

He and his wife are residents of Baltimore City.
