Mayor Scott Releases First Term Accomplishment Report Highlighting Progress Toward a Stronger, More Equitable Baltimore
Mayor Brandon M. Scott

(BALTIMORE – December 31, 2024) – Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott released a first-term accomplishment report entitled “Building Baltimore’s Future Together,” detailing significant strides made in improving public safety the right way, prioritizing youth, building clean and healthy communities, striving for equitable neighborhood development, and ensuring responsible stewardship of city resources over the past four years.

“Reflecting on our journey, I am proud of the progress we’ve made in building a stronger, more equitable Baltimore,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “This report reflects the hard work and commitment of so many people — from city employees to community partners — who love this city and share the vision of a better Baltimore. It’s a reflection of how far we’ve come, but a reminder of the work ahead to continue building Baltimore’s renaissance for every Baltimorean and ensure our city reaches its full potential. To everyone in our city that is working to make a better Baltimore a reality, thank you for your partnership and for believing in what we can accomplish together. The work we are doing is building a foundation for lasting, transformative change.”

The report is being released in web form, available to view at: https://scottfirsttermreport.org/. A print version is also available for download.

The report follow’s Mayor Scott’s original pillars outlined when he first took office, including:

  • Building Public Safety: Our approach has focused on reducing violence through community-based strategies, police reform, and accountability  to the residents of Baltimore. By embracing a holistic view of safety, we are not just reacting to crime, but working to address its root causes and build a safer, more just city for all. Implementation of comprehensive violence reduction strategies and ongoing police reform have contributed to a 22.4% reduction in homicides and a 34.6% reduction in nonfatal shootings this year (as of 12/30).
  • Prioritizing Youth: Our youth are the future of Baltimore, and investing in them is an investment in our city’s long-term success. By expanding educational opportunities, job programs, quality spaces for young people, and mentorship initiatives, we are empowering young Baltimoreans to reach their full potential. Prioritizing youth ensures that every young person in Baltimore has the support and resources they need to thrive.
  • Clean and Healthy Communities: A clean, healthy environment is essential for the well-being of all Baltimoreans. We have taken bold steps to improve sanitation, expand green spaces, and address public health disparities. By investing in cleaner neighborhoods and ensuring access to essential services, we are creating healthier communities where everyone can flourish.
  • Equitable Neighborhood Development Development: Baltimore’s neighborhoods are the soul of our city, and investing in them is investing in our collective future. From revitalizing vacant properties to expanding affordable housing and fostering inclusive economic growth, we’ve prioritized equity in every corner of Baltimore—not just downtown. By ensuring all neighborhoods, regardless of zip code, have the resources they need to thrive, we’re building a stronger, more connected city for everyone.
  • Responsible Stewardship: Managing city resources responsibly is critical to ensuring a sustainable future for Baltimore. We have prioritized transparency, fiscal discipline, and smart investments to ensure that public funds are spent efficiently and equitably. Our commitment to good governance is helping to build a city government that works better for all its residents.

The report also acknowledges the challenges faced during Mayor Scott’s first-term, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the tragic Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, and highlights the city’s resilience in mobilizing resources and forging partnerships to overcome adversity.
