Experience, Endorsements, and Momentum: Julian Jones Builds a Powerful Coalition in Baltimore County Executive Race
Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones has received the endorsements of Gov. Wes Moore, US Senator Angela Alsobrooks, and the legendary Congressman Kweisi Mfume.

(TOWSON – May 11, 2026) – Brick by brick. Stone by stone. Step by step.

Julian E. Jones Jr. is inching closer to the June 23 Democratic primary finish line in the race for Baltimore County Executive — and lately, the Northwest Baltimore County Democrat has been collecting endorsements that are the envy of the field.

But is anyone really surprised?

Jones has spent years building relationships across Maryland’s political landscape. He stood with Kweisi Mfume. He stood with Wes Moore. He stood with Angela Alsobrooks and numerous Democratic leaders throughout the state.

Now, many of those same leaders are standing firmly with him.

At Saturday’s Black Wall Street SPARROWS POINT event at the historic Pleasant Yacht Club — Baltimore’s only Black-owned yacht club — both Jones and Mfume were in attendance, underscoring the growing alignment between Jones and some of Maryland’s most influential Democratic voices. BMORENews captured video from the event as the County Executive race continues to intensify.

The momentum comes during a deeply personal season for Jones, who recently lost his mother just weeks ago. Yet even amid grief, the veteran councilman continues pressing forward with discipline and determination — qualities that have defined much of his public career.

After 12 years on the Baltimore County Council, including four terms as chairman, the Dunbar High School graduate enters the race with more governing experience than his opponents.

And when it comes to one challenger in particular — Izzy Patoka — many observers say Jones appears to hold greater support within the Democratic establishment.

During Baltimore County’s contentious redistricting battle, Patoka sided with Republican council members on a map that critics argued weakened Black political representation in the county. Northwest community advocates, including Linda Dorsey-Walker, sharply criticized the move at the time.

Still, this remains one of the hottest political races in Maryland.

Alongside Jones and Patoka, candidates Nick Stewart and Pat Young are also competing for the seat. As Election Day approaches, the final weeks will likely come down to organization, timing, messaging, and resources.

But endorsements matter.

And Jones has stacked up some heavy hitters.

“I’m deeply honored to earn the endorsement of Congressman Kweisi Mfume, a trailblazing leader who has spent his career standing up for working families and speaking out for communities too often left behind,” Jones said.

Mfume praised Jones’ consistency and leadership.

“Julian Jones is and has been a dedicated, experienced, and consistent fighter for the people of Baltimore County,” Mfume said. “That’s why I endorse and support him to become the next County Executive. Julian is a tireless advocate for change. He brings people together around the important issues that matter. His work on behalf of communities, seniors, and working families continues to make a real difference in the lives of Baltimore County residents every day.”

Jones has also highlighted support from Moore and Alsobrooks.

“I’m proud to have the support of Governor Moore and Senator Alsobrooks in the race for County Executive,” Jones posted May 8. “This team is ready to deliver for Baltimore County.”

Labor support has also become part of Jones’ coalition.

“I’m proud to earn the endorsement of AFGE, one of the largest unions representing federal workers nationwide,” Jones said on May 6. “Federal workers who call Baltimore County home deserve a leader they can trust to stand up for them and their families.”

Jones also earned the backing of the SMART Transportation Division.

“As a former union leader, I know how important it is to stand with workers and fight for the pay, safety, and respect they deserve,” he said. “That’s why I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the rail and transportation workers who keep our economy on the move.”

Meanwhile, community voices continue to rally around his candidacy.

Local advocate Keith Holt recently praised Jones for engaging diverse constituencies, including the LGBTQ community.

“Less than 50 days to the primary and I want a person who is ready to work with EVERYONE, cares about EVERYONE, and is prepared to fight for EVERYONE,” Holt wrote. “Now that’s leadership.”

As June 23 approaches, one thing is becoming increasingly clear:

Julian Jones is not simply running on ambition.

He is running on relationships, experience, and a coalition built over years of political loyalty and community engagement.
