(BALTIMORE – June 28, 2024) – A heartfelt celebration took place on Wednesday night at Coppin State University’s School of Business, honoring Doni Glover’s remarkable 30-year journey in journalism. This event, where Glover’s career began, brought together family, friends, colleagues, and community members to celebrate his vast contributions to news reporting and his impact locally and globally.

The evening was filled with moving testimonials highlighting Glover’s extensive work in the community. Coppin President Anthony Jenkins opened the ceremony with an inspiring presentation on Coppin’s latest achievements. Emcees Marsha Jews of WKIM and Marc Clarke of Fox 45 kept the event lively and engaging.

Among the distinguished honorees were former Coppin professors, a dean, Dr. T.J. Bryan, and Dr. Judith Willner, Glover’s former professor. Dr. T.J. Bryan attended the event with her husband, David, and their son. Notably absent but fondly remembered was Dr. Calvin Burnett, Coppin’s former president and a significant influence in Glover’s life.

Family members played a crucial role in the celebration. Glover’s brother, Andrei James, his cousin Bianca (also an honoree), her mother, Nikki, and his daughter N’yinde, attended the event. N’yinde, a Coppin student with a 3.5 GPA, is set to graduate next year, adding a personal and proud note to the evening.

Coppin National Alumni President Kevin Carr orchestrated a magnificent celebration, and soon-to-be Dr. Tonya Jeffries brought two cakes: one for Glover’s 30th anniversary in journalism and another for his 59th birthday.

The event underscored Glover’s far-reaching impact, from his roots in East Baltimore to his ventures in East Africa and the Middle East, his 21-year tenure at Radio One, and his stewardship of BMORENews.com and BlackUSA.News. The recognition of his initiatives, such as the “Love 4 L” ministry and the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards, highlighted his commitment to uplifting the community.

Held in Coppin’s new College of Business, blocks from Glover’s childhood home, the event was a fitting tribute to a man who has dedicated his career to elevating Black voices in journalism. The night celebrated Glover’s achievements and looked forward to the endless possibilities his open hand continues to create.
