BECMA Updates: President Nicole Obi Named Boston Power 50, New Voter Engagement Page, and more!
Black Economic Council of MA

(BOSTON – October 6, 2022) – Last week, our President & CEO, Nicole Obi, was named among the Boston Business Journal’s Power 50: Movement Makers. This exclusive list recognizes members of the community who are making a positive impact across the Commonwealth. The Black Economic Council of Massachusetts (BECMA) is grateful for this extraordinary recognition and we look forward to continuing to advance the economic well-being of Black businesses, organizations, and residents through advocacy, business and leadership development, and strategic partnerships.

Rewinding to our Mass Black Expo, we would like to again thank everyone who helped to make this year’s event an enormous success. All attendees should have received an e-mail containing links to their headshot photos and a post-expo survey. If you have not done so already, please check your inbox for previous e-mails regarding the survey. We would appreciate your feedback in making the 2023 Mass Black Expo bigger and better.

Lastly, with the 2022 Massachusetts primary elections done, we still have the General Election coming up on November 8th! In addition to the decisive race between candidates, important ballot questions are also at stake. BECMA believes it is crucial that Black, brown, and minority members of the community have equal opportunity to exercise the constitutional right to vote. We’ve launched a new section of our website dedicated solely to providing resources and planning tools that will help minority voices to be heard at the polls. Visit our voter engagement page and make your plan to vote today!

Performances will run from Wednesday, October 5, to Sunday, October 16, with evening and matinee shows.

The Barr Foundation is hiring a Director for their Initiative on Racial Wealth Equity

The Barr Foundation seeks a Director to support and guide both the launch and day-to-day operations of its new Racial Wealth Equity initiative. This is the first full-time role dedicated to the Racial Wealth Equity initiative. This initiative was developed in close collaboration with emerging and established program and policy leaders active throughout Greater Boston.

Continued deep engagement of grantees and other field experts to provide feedback on current initiative activities and influence the evolution of the initiative will be a priority for the Foundation over the life of the initiative. As a new special initiative, the director will report to the Foundation President. This reporting structure may evolve as the initiative takes greater shape and becomes more integrated with other work at Barr.
