Woodlawn Says “No” to Data Centers

Woodlawn Says “No” to Data Centers
Several people attended an informational meeting on December 3rd regarding a proposed data center’s development in the Woodlawn community.

(WOODLAWN – December 23, 2025) – Senator Charles E. Sydnor III and Delegates Sheila Ruth and Aletheia McCaskill (the “District 44B Legislators”) hosted an informational meeting on December 3rd regarding a proposed data center’s development in the Woodlawn community. This meeting was held in the Woodlawn High School Auditorium.

This is the “District 44B Legislators” team statement:

“After carefully considering all that we have learned about data centers and their potential impact, and the feedback we have received from our constituents, the District 44 legislators have concluded that the potential harm that developing a data center in Woodlawn could cause our people and our communities outweighs the potential benefits.

This data center would add cumulative impact to an already overburdened and underserved community, and would not be a good fit for the character of a community which is actively undergoing revitalization. Data centers should also not be developed on agricultural lands, forest, open space, or in the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area due to environmental and quality of life concerns.

Baltimore County needs an official plan for managing the development of data centers, including guidance for siting and environmental protections, thus we call on the County to enact a moratorium on building data centers anywhere within the County until such a plan can be developed.

District 44’s legislators Senator Charles E. Sydnor, Delegate Eric Ebersole, Delegate Aletheia McCaskill, and Delegate Sheila Ruth have been in discussions with County District 1 Councilman Pat Young, and we expect that an announcement will be made soon.”
