(NATIONAL HARBOR – October 20, 2022) – Many moons ago, Damon Hughes worked for Baltimore County government in their Minority Business Enterprise office. Jim Smith was the County Executive at the time. Hughes was passionate about his work even back then. After that, he worked at Johns Hopkins in a similar capacity. What I remember through all of these years is how he has always made it his business to help Black businesses eat – and unapologetically so.

And he’s at it again! (Talk about consistency!)

An Executive Certified Master Compliance Administrator – the person that makes sure your company is doing the right thing, Hughes recently shared about his current role as Senior Program Manager (Supplier Diversity) at Amazon.

“Amazon is committed to Supplier Diversity by uplifting the communities we work and live in, creating jobs, and providing a seat at the table for Diverse-Owned and Small Businesses,” stated Hughes.

He was referencing the By Black Conference at National Harbor held in conjunction with the US Black Chambers based in Washington, D.C.

One thing I know for sure, Amazon has the right person to get the job done. In terms of bring others to the table who have been historically overlooked and ignored, Hughes thrives – making it a win-win with exponential returns.

As Maryland Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford stated, nobody hires Black people more than Black people. Hence, as we strengthen our businesses, they can hire more people from our community. Getting a seat at the table with Amazon is a game-changer for those who can cut the mustard.

There is no better person qualified and capable.

Congratulations, Damon! You are proof positive that hard work and determination pay off! You stayed true to your core mission. You understand what it means to run a business. And thus you have a solid foundational understanding of both the challenges and the solutions.

Keep going, sir! The best is yet to come!
