WELCOME listeners to today’s episode of the “Black Business Roundtable! I am your host Doug Blacksher broadcasting to you LIVE from the city of Diversity Oakland California! We are going to continue our series on our HEALTH but focus this week on PEDIATRICS so Parents, Educators, Staff and those working with children in any way this Podcast is for YOU!

Today’s show highlights:
Politics, Children and the Pandemic here in the Bay Area which may be a reflection of other communities both locally and nationally. Today we welcome an esteemed Physician and member of the medical community right here in the Bay Area. Last week we focused on Adults and today on Today we will concentrate on the Medical news in Pediatric Health!

Attorney Janani Ramachandran, Esq., Here to give us the latest news affecting our CHILDREN and the continuing struggle our communities face during not only COVID-19 but Cold & Flu season and deficits in local Healthcare access. Dr. Calvin Wheeler, MD is the Medical Director for a large Undergraduate & Graduate Medical Education program in Northern California. He has served as a Clinical Faculty member at several medical schools and does work in Equity, Inclusion & Diversity sphere. Dr. Wheeler, has served in healthcare leadership roles over the past 30 years. Dr. Wheeler attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR where he studied Pre-Med and Pre-Pharmacy. He then matriculated at the University of Michigan, College of Pharmacy. After graduation, he obtained his California Pharmacy License and attended the University of California – Irvine College of Medicine. Completing medical school 6 months early, he did a 6 month American Hepatic Foundation Fellowship at the Kings College Hospital on the liver failure unit in London, England. He then did residency training in Pediatrics at Boston City Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. His residency was followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Neurology at Boston City Hospital & the Boston University Combined Neurology Program, where he also served as a Clinical Instructor. He then completed a fellowship in Epilepsy / EEG and the Houston Merritt Fellowship in Cerebral Palsy at the Children’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School, where he also served as a Clinical Instructor. After moving to the Bay Area, Dr. Wheeler became a Clinical Instructor at UCSF in the Department of Pediatrics and the Division of Neurology. His research interests have been in the area of antiepileptic medications and alternative epilepsy treatments. Tune in for more on Dr. Calvin Wheeler!
