(BALTIMORE – October 31, 2023) – Thanks to Larry Jennings, I had the opportunity to meet one of Baltimore’s shining stars. He is already a pastry chef, but has even greater aspirations. Upon meeting him, I just had to share his story far and wide because all too often, a different picture is painted of the young Black man in urban America. This is a beautiful story about one in Baltimore making phenomenal strides toward excellence. Honestly, we, as a community, can share in knowing that there are other Calebs out there, too.

On that note, BMORENews.com will recognize Caleb on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Baltimore Unity Hall. RSVP to BlackwallstreetReunion.eventbrite.com. We are so very proud of his accomplishments and lift him as an example of what we can do when we love each other and work together.

So, just who is Caleb Hayes?

Caleb Hayes is the owner and operator of Flour and Butter Baking Co. Launching his businesses at 13, Caleb’s interest in baking derived from his love of science and math. Today, he combines his passion for baking and STEM to bring freshly baked pastries to everyone’s table. His signature treats include Blueberry Basil Muffins, Ensaimadas (a Portuguese pastry), and his stellar Lemon Basil Pastry Puffs.

Caleb is a member of the Baltimore Children’s Business Association, has been recognized as an up-and-coming entrepreneur by The United Way of Central Maryland, and has also been featured in the Baltimore Banner. He is a recurring vendor for the 32nd Street Market in Baltimore, Johns Hopkins University, and The United Way of Central Maryland. Caleb has studied under a chef trained by Gordon Ramsey, and interned as a sous chef for Chef Bill Yosses, White House Pastry Chef under the Obama Administration.

Caleb and his family reside in Baltimore City and he is a sophomore at Bard Early College. After high school, Caleb’s dream is to study abroad and become a pastry chef.
