TGR: Dear Mayor Scott, Keep Going!
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott

By Doni Glover, Publisher

(BALTIMORE – November 7, 2022) – Give them sugar, and they want salt. You give me them salt, and they want pepper. Being Mayor of Baltimore is a thankless job. As much as I was against Martin O’Malley’s “zero tolerance” and his utter disrespect for Black people, he shared those words with me years ago during a visit to a local high school. I will never forget it because it provided insight into what a leader deals with on a regular basis.

Mayor Brandon Scott has implemented an outreach program for Squeegee Kids and don’t you know that people are complaining about it? The man can’t win for losing. Unbelievable!

I think we are hypocritical assholes sometimes who are so busy pointing fingers that we don’t see the fingers pointing back at us. We, as a human race, are so damn ungrateful.

If he ignores the young Black men on the corners, then he is perceived as not caring. If he does reach out and begin to build a rapport with our young men, there’s flack for that, too.

Mr. Mayor, I am personally proud of you for trying something. Years from now, this will be viewed as visionary – I pray. I wish the best for this city, but no matter how much you try – you will never please all of the people all of the time.

I encourage you to continue to follow your moral compass, keep your hands clean, and get ready to be re-elected to get the heavy lifting completed.

Baltimore can piss you off, I imagine.

Fox TV on one hand, the white community on another, and – well Black people – you can’t escape us because, after all, this is a 62% Black city. My point is to keep going, Mr. Mayor! Do your best and the work will speak for itself.

I am sure the outreach will be tweaked. I am sure this is ultimately about holding these young men accountable and providing them with comprehensive wrap-around services. I am also sure that you have made a bold stance to save young Black men in the City of Baltimore.

THANK YOU!

Keep Going! TGR: Dear Mayor Scott
