Groundbreaking Event at SFNC Marks a Milestone in Community Development for West Baltimore
St. Francis Neighborhood Center

(BALTIMORE – October 22, 2023) – St. Francis Neighborhood Center (SFNC), a leading nonprofit organization committed to ending generational poverty through free education, resources, and partnerships, is proud to announce a groundbreaking event that symbolizes a pivotal moment for the community. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on November 14th, 2023, at 4:00 PM at 2405 Linden Avenue and is open to the public.

The event will mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the organization’s 60-year journey. It represents St. Francis Neighborhood Center’s continued dedication to making a lasting impact on the 21217 zip code of West Baltimore by providing more classrooms, renovations, and a much-needed multi-purpose space in the upcoming construction–one of many resources this area has lacked. These improvements will mean shorter waitlists for the Center’s free flagship youth programs and a greater capacity for collaboration with community partners across the region.

“We are very excited to take this next step in the transformation of St. Francis Neighborhood Center,” says Kevin Apperson, President of the Board of Directors for SFNC and a long-time resident of the community. “This new addition will enable us to expand our programs and truly meet the needs of the Reservoir Hill community.”

Highlights of the event will include:

  • Groundbreaking ceremony with key community leaders, supporters, and local representatives

  • Speeches and insights into the project’s significance and its expected positive impact on the community

  • Opportunities for the community to get involved and support SFNC’s mission

  • Site tours

Torbin Green, Executive Director of St. Francis Neighborhood Center, expressed excitement about this milestone event, saying, “This groundbreaking ceremony is a testament to our commitment to creating positive change and partnerships in our community.”

Green added, “We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this significant step toward a brighter future for Baltimore City.”

The groundbreaking event represents the culmination of a years-long capital campaign. St. Francis Neighborhood Center is grateful for the ongoing support of the community, donors, and partners who have made this project possible and encourages attendees to share their experiences and excitement about the groundbreaking event on social media using the hashtag #CountOnMe.

This expansion is a win for not just SFNC as an organization but for the community as a whole, and the Center looks forward to sharing this memorable occasion with everyone who has been a part of its journey thus far.
