Senator Larry Young, the project’s spearhead, unveiled the initiative, citing the alarming figure of 4.2 million U.S. citizens currently excluded from voting due to their criminal records. “This project aims to address this critical social issue, ensuring that every citizen has a voice in our democracy,” said Senator Young.
The initiative, aptly named “Locked Out No More,” operates via the metaverse and revolves around three pillars: the involvement of volunteering lawyers from across the globe, the establishment of civil rights organizations’ offices in STEM City USA, and the use of the metaverse for legal meetings. Individuals seeking to expunge their criminal records can virtually meet with lawyers to initiate the process.
“We’re harnessing the potential of emerging digital technologies, and combining it with the spirit of pro bono legal aid to democratize access to these much-needed services,” explained Senator Young.
As one of the most significant endeavors in the metaverse, “Locked Out No More” has the potential to influence upcoming elections by reintroducing millions of previously disenfranchised voices into the voting population. Beyond restoring voting rights, the project seeks to empower individuals by removing the societal limitations associated with criminal records.
