(BALTIMORE – November 10, 2024)—Be sure to RSVP for BMORENews.com’s Black Wall Street SOIREE, our annual fundraiser to support our Joe Manns Black Wall Street initiative, on Thursday, December 5, 2024 (6 to 9 pm) at the Downtown Cultural Arts Center at 401 N. Howard Street. RSVP to https://blackwallstreetsoiree.eventbrite.com/.

As always, the event will feature the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards, where we celebrate Black entrepreneurs and professionals as well as the people who support them regardless of race.

Honorees will include Lenzie Johnson, Jr.

Who is Lenzie?

Inspired by lessons learned growing up around his father’s firewood business, Lenzie Johnson, Jr. launched a successful dump truck business in 1986 from the basement of his mother’s home in East Baltimore. L&J Construction specializes in dump truck hauling services for construction projects. Under his leadership, the business grew to be one of the largest dump truck providers in the state of Maryland, putting over 100 dump trucks on the road every day.

In 2000, Mr. Johnson leveraged his trucking industry background and entered the roll-off dumpster service business with one truck and ten dumpsters.

In 2011, Lenzie and his son, Lenzie Johnson III, opened the first minority-owned and operated construction and demolition waste recycling center in Baltimore City. The father-son team owns and operates 15 trucks and 400 dumpsters, taking in 250+ tons per day and over 85,000 tons of C&D waste per year. The facility serves some of the most significant construction projects in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Northern Arundel County.

Mr. Johnson sits on the Board of Directors for the National CDRA Construction & Demolition Recycling Association. The company is on track to be the first RCI-certified facility in Maryland, which is a nationally recognized third-party certifying organization.
