Owner of Selby’s Grab and Go pursued his craft to highest level

Black Wall Street Southern Maryland • Tuesday, February 24, 2026

(WALDORF, MD – February 17, 2026) — “Food is a catalyst to the soul.”

That is not just a tagline for Chef Kendall Selby. It is a life philosophy — one forged in some of the most demanding culinary environments in the world and now rooted right here in Southern Maryland.

On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Chef Selby will be honored at Black Wall Street Southern Maryland for a career that represents the very best of Black entrepreneurship, global excellence, and community investment.

A Foundation Built for Excellence

Originally from New Jersey, Chef Selby pursued his culinary craft at the highest level — earning his formal training at the prestigious French Culinary Institute in New York City, one of the most respected culinary academies in the world. That foundation prepared him for stages far beyond the kitchen.

His early career took him into elite legal circles, where he served as Head Chef for the New Jersey State Bar Association — preparing elegant luncheons and formal dinners for some of the region’s most respected attorneys and judges. Precision, presentation, and professionalism were non-negotiable in that environment, and Chef Selby delivered.

Leading at Scale

From intimate legal dinners, Chef Selby scaled his operation dramatically, becoming Executive Chef for Abundant Harvest Catering — a leading company specializing in large-scale events of 500 guests or more. In that role, he managed a team of 45 professionals, including sous chefs, servers, waitstaff, and host staff.

That is not just a chef. That is a chief executive who happens to cook.

A Global Stage

Chef Selby’s international reach became undeniable when he was called upon to cater a birthday celebration for the President of The Gambia in West Africa — a high-profile gala attended by hundreds of national leaders and executives. For the occasion, he collaborated with culinary professionals from across the globe to execute an event worthy of that audience.

From New Jersey to New York City to West Africa — Chef Selby has carried his craft to every corner of the world, and done so with distinction.

Bringing It Home to Southern Maryland

Today, Chef Selby channels that global experience into something deeply local. As the owner of Selby’s Grab and Go in Waldorf, Maryland, he serves the Southern Maryland community daily — with the same passion, discipline, and standards that once fed presidents and heads of state.

That is what Black Wall Street is all about. Taking world-class talent and investing it back into the community. Building something lasting. Building something local.

Chef Kendall Selby is doing exactly that — one plate at a time.
