Danise Jones Dorsey Is Fighting Poverty, Building Wealth, and Demanding Justice for Black Baltimore

(BALTIMORE – April 20, 2026) – If you want to understand what community leadership looks like in practice — not in theory, not in a mission statement, but in the trenches — look no further than Danise Jones Dorsey.

A dedicated anti-poverty activist, nonprofit governance expert, and community development strategist, Danise has spent her career doing what most people only talk about: dismantling the systemic barriers that keep Black families locked out of wealth, homeownership, and economic mobility.

Her own words say it best: “My professional and volunteer life has provided me the opportunity to contribute to the elimination of societal structures that perpetuate material poverty, undermine family life, and destroy communities.”

That’s not a soundbite. That’s a lifetime’s work.

Building Permanent Pathways to Homeownership

As Chair of the North East Housing Initiative (NEHI), Danise has been instrumental in developing permanently affordable homeownership opportunities for Baltimore-Towson families earning 30–50% of the Area Median Income. In a city where the racial wealth gap continues to widen, her leadership at NEHI is a direct counterpunch — creating generational wealth through homeownership for families who’ve historically been shut out.

She is also the past chair for SHARE Baltimore Inc., an umbrella network overseeing some of Baltimore’s most critical Community Land Trusts — Charm City CLT, Harbor West Collaborative, NEHI, and South Baltimore Community Land Trust. Under her leadership, SHARE Baltimore has built shared infrastructure, attracted private capital, and created the kind of collaborative synergy that makes CLTs not just survive, but scale.

A Seat at the Reparations Table

In May 2024, the Baltimore City Council voted 14-0 to establish the Community Reinvestment and Reparations Commission — a historic body charged with addressing racial disparities through targeted economic investment in Black communities. Danise was appointed as a commissioner. Her role: guiding fund allocation and shaping policy to build long-term community wealth and address systemic racial injustice.

That’s not a ceremonial appointment. That’s earned trust.

The Full Package

What makes Danise exceptional isn’t just her résumé — it’s her method. She leads with creativity, mobilizes people to action, and builds what she calls esprit de corps among stakeholders — the kind of shared spirit that turns short-term projects into lasting movements.

On Sunday, April 26, 2026, the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards is proud to honor Danise Jones Dorsey at Black Wall Street BENEDETTO 2.0, taking place at 110 W. Mulberry Street in Baltimore at 2:30 PM EDT. RSVP to https://blackwallstreetbenedetto25.eventbrite.com.

Baltimore is better because of her. Period.
