HERstory Matters: An Evening with Diane Bell-McKoy
Please consider joining the Black Executive Director's Network on the evening of March 28th.
(BALTIMORE – March 22, 2024) – In celebration of Women’s History Month, mark your calendars for Thursday, March 28th, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, at The Center Club. Join us for an insightful discussion on the challenges faced by black women in nonprofit leadership, featuring Diane Bell-McKoy.

Historically, the nonprofit sector has primarily served marginalized communities and communities of color who have been disproportionately affected by a system that was never designed to include them. Many of the United States’ nonprofits are led by individuals, institutions, and foundations that do not represent their beneficiaries.

Thus, Black Executive Directors are thrust into roles where they often feel isolated, being the only person of color in leadership and the organization feeling like the sole voice of the beneficiaries they serve. Black women leaders of nonprofits face even more barriers and challenges relative to access. Having fewer resources, black women-led organizations often serve the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations with the least amount of funding.

Diane Bell-McKoy, a visionary with over three decades in public service and nonprofit leadership, has dedicated her career to fostering economic success and social impact in communities of color. From her early efforts in D.C. and Baltimore’s empowerment zones to her transformative work as President/CEO of Associated Black Charities, Diane’s approach has always centered on creating inclusive cultures and strategic opportunities. Now leading Opportunity Connection, LLC, she continues to champion the empowerment of people of color through consulting, coaching, and facilitating.
