Who is Gabrielle?

Gabrielle Sutherland is a dynamic leader and entrepreneur with a deep passion for computer science and biotechnology. She demonstrated a strong drive for innovation and community impact from an early age. She co-founded The Loch Raven Dragons chess club when she was just nine years old to teach elementary and middle school students. By 14, she played a key role in establishing and managing a high school robotics team, further solidifying her leadership in STEM. Gabrielle has gained hands-on experience through an internship at an educational technology startup and has actively participated in and organized both high school and collegiate hackathons.

As a member of the inaugural high school cohort of an international computer science fellowship, she has showcased her technical expertise and commitment to advancing technology. She has developed two projects in synthetic biology as part of the East Coast Biocrew and successfully led multiple teams in a bioengineering competition. Beyond STEM, Gabrielle is also a published co-author of a math-based historical fiction novel for middle-grade readers. A recognized scholar, she is the second-place overall winner of Georgetown’s 2025 hackathon, a National Merit Commended Scholar, and a National African American Recognition Scholar. This fall, she will pursue a double major in Computer Science and International Business, with ambitions to launch a biotechnology company that integrates machine learning to develop treatments for rare and chronic conditions.
