Op-Ed: No Action Taken Against Assaulted 3rd Grader at Tench Tilghman Elementary School
“In order to understand the people, you have to be one of the people.”

“Our Silence Will No Longer be Consent”

By Yolanda Pulley

(BALTIMORE – October 9, 2023) – Tench Tilghman Elementary School has recently come under fire for its failure to take appropriate action against an incident of assault involving a 3rd-grade student. The victim, whose identity is being protected for their safety, sustained injuries and has been left to pick up the pieces while their rights continue to be trampled on. This alarming lack of action and protection for the victim showcases a disturbing pattern of prioritizing the rights of bullies over those of the innocent.

The incident, which took place on October 2, 2023, involved a brutal assault on the victim within the school premises. Despite the incident being reported to the school administration, no tangible steps have been taken to address the issue, hold the responsible parties accountable, or provide support to the victim and their family during this traumatic time.

Tench Tilghman Elementary School’s inaction sends a dangerous message to both the victim and the community at large. By failing to take swift and decisive action, the school is effectively protecting the rights of the bullies while stripping away the rights of the victim. This is a clear violation of the fundamental principles of justice and equality that our society upholds.

We, as a community, can no longer remain silent and allow such injustices to persist. Our silence should not be mistaken for consent. It is time to demand accountability from the school administration and ensure that the rights and well-being of our children are adequately safeguarded.

We call upon the Tench Tilghman Elementary School administration to:

1. Immediately launch a thorough investigation into the incident, ensuring that all parties involved are held accountable for their actions.

2. Provide comprehensive support and counseling services to the victim and their family to aid in their physical and emotional recovery.

3. Implement and enforce a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying and harassment within the school premises.

4. Develop and implement proactive measures to create a safe and inclusive environment for all students, ensuring their rights are protected.

We urge the school administration, the local education board, and the community at large to stand together against bullying and advocate for the rights and safety of our children. Let our voices be heard, let our actions speak louder than words, and let this incident serve as a catalyst for change.

No child should have to endure the trauma and pain of assault while their rights are disregarded. We demand justice, accountability, and a swift resolution to this matter. Together, we can create a safer and more compassionate environment for all students at Tench Tilghman Elementary School.

Note: This press release aims to raise awareness about the lack of action taken against an assault on a 3rd grader at Tench Tilghman Elementary School.
