(WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 30, 2024) –  Today, Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) announced the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition for Maryland’s 7th Congressional District. After deliberation by five distinguished judges on Congressman Mfume’s Art Competition judging panel, the artwork and student that received the highest score was:

Presence by Spencer Seergae, Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts

“Creativity is essential to human understanding and development, and the themes that are displayed in works of art are almost always relevant and applicable to our own lives,” said Congressman Mfume. “I was personally moved by all the artwork my Congressional Office received this year and am so very impressed by the stories these pieces told and the sheer talent they displayed. To this year’s winner, Spencer Seergae, I want to wish you sincere congratulations on your vision, creative spirit, and artistic excellence,” he concluded.

Additional Information: Congressional Art Competition

The Congressional Art Competition is a way for Members of Congress to encourage, bolster, and highlight the artistic talents of young constituents in high school. The Competition is open to all high school students in Maryland’s 7th Congressional District.

Each Member of Congress may select one piece of artwork to be displayed on Capitol Hill through the Competition. The winning artwork from around the country will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel, between the U.S. Capitol and the Cannon House Office Building, for one year. The students will also be honored at the Congressional Art Competition Reception in Washington, D.C.
