Who is Dean Wilbon?

Dr. Anthony Wilbon is an innovative leader who understands and embraces an organization’s value proposition and works to drive strategy toward its mission. A respected academician with years of corporate experience, Dr. Wilbon serves as the chief executive of the School of Business and is responsible for navigating its strategic, operational, and financial direction while delivering intellectual and administrative leadership for all academic departments, centers, programs, faculty, and staff.

His expertise is in strategic technology management with a particular focus on small to medium-sized enterprises. Dean Wilbon’s research includes strategy, technology innovation and entrepreneurship and sustainable environmental engineering through the integration of social, environmental, and economic considerations. Dean Wilbon has many peer-reviewed academic publications in journals such as Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, Small Group Research, Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, The Journal of High Technology Management Research, International Journal of e-Adoption. He has produced several reports for federal agencies, technical white papers, a fictional novel and made many media appearances on television, radio, and podcasts.

Dr. Wilbon completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at Michigan State University, a Master of Business Administration degree at Howard University School of Business, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree at George Washington University in Management of Science, Technology, and Innovation. He is also the recipient of a Fulbright International Education Administrators Award (France). As Dean of the School of Business at Howard, he has helped raise and stewards over $85 million in grants and gifts to develop several innovative programs and centers of excellence through fundraising and corporate partner engagement.

Prior to joining Howard University, Dr. Wilbon was a faculty member at Morgan State University’s Earl Graves School of Business and Management. There he served as a co-principal investigator for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)-funded Environmental Cooperative Science Center in collaboration with Florida A&M University and several other institutions. He also previously served in engineering and senior management level positions as several organizations including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Booz-Allen and Hamilton, Inc., American Management Systems, Inc, and Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

An innovator with a collaborative leadership style, Dr. Wilbon strives to motivate all stakeholders toward a shared vision of high-level success. He has served on numerous state, and national committees, organizations, and Boards, currently including Graduate Management Admissions Council Board of Directors, National Association of Securities Professionals (NASP) Advisory Council, Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Society Board of Governors, and the Smithsonian Lemmelson Project.
