(ANNAPOLIS – February 1, 2025) – In January 2026, Governor Wes Moore unveiled a $70.8 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2027 that closes a $1.5 billion hole without asking Marylanders to pay more in taxes. The proposal represents a dramatic turn toward fiscal restraint after two years of aggressive spending and tax increases. How He’s Balancing the Books Moore’s team is using a combination of real cuts and financial maneuvering: $900 million in direct spending cuts across state agencies and programs $1.8 billion in total savings when accounting for fund transfers and shifting costs to counties 8% Rainy Day Fund…
In Memory of our Fallen Brother (BALTIMORE – 2011) – In the wee hours of Saturday, May 29, 2010, Michael Vernon Dobson, Sr. traded his earthly battle with cancer for an eternal peace with God. I have chosen to remember and honor my good friend and brother with the following words that are born from discussions in which we would become engaged. Hard to believe it’s been a year already. I was almost a teenager before I realized who Mike was, and with fourteen years between his birth and mine, it would be hard to expect much more. Over the…
(ANNAPOLIS, MD – June 17, 2024)—Governor Wes Moore today signed a historic executive order pardoning 175,000 Maryland convictions related to the possession of cannabis, including convictions for misdemeanor possession of cannabis and certain convictions for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. The order represents the largest pardon for misdemeanor cannabis possession charges for any state in the country and the inclusion of paraphernalia makes Maryland the first state to take such action. “Maryland made history when we legalized cannabis by referendum. But we cannot celebrate the benefits of legalization while forgetting the consequences of criminalization. No Marylander should face barriers to housing, employment,…

(BALTIMORE – May 19, 2024) – Now that last Tuesday’s primary election is in the rearview mirror, it is time to get back to the business of making Baltimore better. Let me first say that I salute the candidates who have done the boldest thing any American can do outside of the military – and that’s putting one’s entire self out there for the world to judge. The most dangerous situation for a soldier is war. For the candidate, the most dangerous position is to be on “Front Street under public scrutiny.” I think that takes a lot of heart.…

(GREENBELT, MD – May 15, 2024) – Angela Alsobrooks made history, overcoming steep odds with a grassroots-powered campaign to win the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. The following are her remarks as prepared for delivery. Alsobrooks said, “Thank you to the captain of Team Maryland, Governor Wes Moore. Let’s give it up Senator Van Hollen and the other tremendous leaders who believed in us. You’ve been tremendous partners to me in this campaign and I am so grateful for your guidance, support, and friendship. I had an opportunity to speak with Congressman David Trone. We are united in our focus…
(BALTIMORE – May 15, 2024) – Congratulations to Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and the new Democratic City Council President-nominee Zeke Cohen. While the mayor retains his seat, Cohen will (upon winning in November) be taking the place of President Nick Mosby. Shannon Sneed placed second and Mosby came in last place. Surely, this election was taxing in every possible way for Mosby. Sheila Dixon came close at one point in the count last night, but as the number of precincts reporting increased, Scott’s lead expanded. This was her third attempt at reclaiming City Hall. Despite a laundry list of issues,…
(BOWIE, MD – MAY 10, 2024) – The U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. submitted testimony for a recently held Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee “Promoting Opportunity: The Need for Targeted Federal Business Programs to Address Ongoing Racial Discrimination” hearing at Bowie State University that addressed the pervasive issue of racial discrimination within the entrepreneurial landscape and government contracting. This landmark hearing convened policymakers, industry leaders, and advocates to scrutinize and strategize against systemic biases affecting Black-owned businesses nationwide. Ron Busby Sr., President and CEO of the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., released the following statement in addition to his testimony: “The…
(ANNAPOLIS, MD – May 10, 2024) – Governor Moore attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony today for the Conair Distribution Center in Hagerstown. First announced in October 2023, the facility is Conair’s largest distribution center in the Mid-Atlantic region and will bring 700 jobs to Maryland’s economy within 10 years—another example of the Moore-Miller Administration’s commitment to making Maryland more competitive. “I tell everyone in the country that Maryland is the best place to grow or start a business, and today reaffirms our commitment to make it even better,” said Gov. Moore. “I want to thank Conair for believing in Maryland and choosing to…
