(BALTIMORE – October 5, 2023) — In a concerted effort to address the pressing issues surrounding public safety, mayoral candidate Sheila Dixon hosted the first in a series of comprehensive town hall meetings on Wednesday, October 4th, bringing together concerned citizens, local leaders, and law enforcement officials. The event, held at New Metropolitan Baptist Church provided an open platform for discussion, analysis, and proactive problem-solving in the pursuit of a safer Baltimore.

The Public Safety Town Hall offered a unique opportunity for community members to engage directly with the mayoral candidate and share their concerns regarding crime, neighborhood safety, and the overall well-being of Baltimore residents. The event exemplified Dixon’s commitment to fostering transparency, community involvement, and evidence-based strategies to enhance public safety measures in the city.

1.      Interactive Discussions: Attendees actively participated in engaging discussions facilitated by Sheila Dixon, addressing various aspects of public safety, including community policing and engagement, crime prevention, and initiatives to support at-risk youth.

2.      Expert Panel: A panel of experts, including moderator Melvin Russell, Retired Judge Wanda Heard, and Member of the PEACE Team Devan Martin-Bey, shared insights and offered their experience to help propose solutions for the most pressing challenges facing the city.

3.      Community Input: The event encouraged an open mic policy, allowing community members to voice their concerns, share personal experiences, and suggest collaborative solutions. This direct interaction helped in creating a platform for genuine dialogue between citizens and local leaders.
