Kimberli Hammonds, DRUM Executive Director Leaves Behind a Legacy of Hope
DRUM's Executive Director, Ms. Kimberli Hammonds.

(BALTIMORE – October 24, 2023) – It is with our heartfelt and deepest sentiments that we regretfully announce the passing of our cherished Executive Director, Kimberli Ann Hammonds. “Ms. Kim”, as she was affectionately called, was a strong advocate for DRUM’s mission and the families we serve. Ms. Kim served as a shining light of hope and inspiration for our staff, board of directors, partners, stakeholders, and community. Her love and strength will continue to guide us as we work together to carry her vision forward.

DRUM Healthy Families, Inc. formerly known as DRU Mondawmin Healthy Families, Inc. was established in 1999 in West Baltimore. It has served over 1,500 families to reduce infant mortality in Baltimore City. Ms. Kim began her tenure shortly after the agency’s inception and was named Executive Director in 2012. DRUM’s primary goals are to address adverse maternal and child health outcomes to reduce infant mortality, support healthy birth weights, and prepare children for school readiness. She amassed 23 years of home-visiting expertise.

Ms. Kim was a graduate of Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland, where she earned her degree in Social Work. As part of her labor of love, DRUM Healthy Families was instrumental in the passing of the Home Visiting Accountability Act House Bill 699 in 2012. Under her mentor and DRUM
founding Executive Director Emerita, Dr. Barbara Hughes, she assisted the Baltimore City Health Department and the Family League of Baltimore City (FLBC) to align all home-visiting sites in Baltimore City to meet the evidence-based model established by Healthy Families America (HFA). Under Ms. Kim’s leadership, DRUM’s approach to home visiting helps to bridge families from trauma to resilience.

Ms. Kim was honored by many organizations as a valued community partner and fierce leader. When faced with terrific workload challenges, her modus operandi was, “We’ll figure it out”. We will continue to move forward with plans for DRUM’s building renovation and program expansion. Our thoughts and hearts are with Ms. Kim’s family, during this most difficult time. In honor of her, we invite you to share your fondest memories with us through our website. The community she cared for so deeply will miss her warm presence and her loving leadership.
