Local Legend Gert Scott Among Honorees at BMORENews’ 23rd Anniversary Celebration
The Great Gert Scott

(BALTIMORE — November 25, 2025) — Save the date! Join BMORENews.com on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Douglass-Myers Maritime Museum in Baltimore for our 23rd Anniversary Benefit. RSVP at bmorenews23.eventbrite.com.

For over two decades, this annual celebration has served as a cornerstone event for Baltimore’s Black business and media community. The evening centers on the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards, which honor leaders whose work strengthens industries and uplifts communities. Since launching in 2011, BMORENews and its partners have recognized over 3,000 entrepreneurs and changemakers across nine cities for their commitment to Black economic empowerment and enterprise.

This year brings an exciting addition: the inaugural Black Wall Street Youth Awards, shining a spotlight on young visionaries and emerging business leaders who represent the next generation of Black excellence.

Among the honorees is Baltimore basketball trailblazer Gert Scott.

Following last week’s announcement that the 1973 National Championship Dunbar Poets will be honored on December 4th, we recognized the need to celebrate a pioneering woman who opened doors in Baltimore basketball for generations to come: The Great Gert Scott. We’re honored to recognize this remarkable woman who consistently gives back to the community that raised her. Her presence at events like Cloverdale’s Labor Day Cookout, the One Baltimore Cookout, and the Annual Legends Game at the Dome means the world to organizers Dr. Warren Hayman, Timmy Green, and Gregory Branch, who create meaningful gatherings for the community.

Scott’s credentials speak volumes: two-time Baltimore Sun Player of the Year, 2,355 career high school points, LSU All-American honors, and was one of only two high schoolers invited to the 1984 USA Olympic Trials. Beyond the accolades, she remains a steadfast pillar in her community—a queen who never forgot her roots.
