Editorial: Have you seen Dan Cox in Harlem Park or Sandtown? Neither have we!

(BALTIMORE – September 8, 2022) – I’m not sure who is advising Dan Cox, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in Maryland who is supported by disgraced former Pres. Donald “Hold State Documents for Ransom or Future Business Deals” Trump, but whoever that person is, they need to take some notes from Team Wes Moore.

Dawn Moore, wife of Wes, and former Delegate Roxanne Prettyman. According to Prettyman, a community leader in Sandtown-Winchester, she has not seen nor heard from Dan Cox.

The entire free world knows that portions of Sandtown and Harlem Park, particularly our most vulnerable Historic West Baltimore residents (our seniors), need water because of the E. coli bacteria recently found in the drinking water at very high levels. So, what did 40th district state Senator Antonio Hayes do? He touched base with Wes and the rest is history.

Water delivered!

Sure, there are other people doing their part, including Major Roger Glick of the Salvation Army, who plans to soon open shop at the former William Pinderhughes Elementary at 1200 N. Fremont. However, when there is a hot election coming up in 2 brief months, one would figure the Cox-sters would have somehow made their way to the E. coli ground zero.

But, no! Clearly, under-served and under-resourced communities like Sandtown and Harlem Park have always gotten the short end of the stick – even though Bolton Hill, a community that is heavily white and upwardly mobile, is right next door.

Wes takes a pic with Greek organization members. Second from the left is Funeral Director and Mortician Brandon Wylie of Wylie Funeral Homes. Brandon is a standout; he is the youngest person in Maryland to ever become a licensed funeral director/mortician.

Baltimoreans understand this inequity. We know, for instance, that while white addicts trash Sandtown and Upton, a Black addict better not get caught walking in the alleys over in Bolton Hill at all hours of the night. He’d be locked up faster than a Baltimore speed camera.

Fox 45 never sees these white addicts uptown. They only see Black Squeegee kids downtown.

This is our plight, and Cox clearly isn’t interested in whether or not we catch E. coli or not. Clearly! Gov. Larry Hogan gets it, … but not Cox.

Go, Wes Moore! Dan Cox – you keep playing your games. We expect it. We also expect to see this Wes Moore go from the State House to the White House. Why? Because he “gets it”. Malcolm X may have said it best: “You can’t serve the people if you don’t love the people.”

More than anything, Wes Moore – his wife, Dawn, and the rest of his team, including office workers, were in the streets of Historic West Baltimore today handing out water and that means a lot to us. Come November 8th, we’ll show you better than we can tell you!
