A 1980 graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar Community High School, Wood was a guard who played with Craig Talley and Kevin Bush. He was rated as one of the best high school guards in the nation, and went on to play and graduate from Virginia State University in 1985.
For the uninitiated, Wood was on the scene just before Muggsy Bogues, the 1983 Dunbar graduate who went on to the NBA.
Wood, along with Keith Goodie (another Dunbar basketball legend), is a partner with Greg Branch at the Dale Talley Branch Foundation’s Baltimore Legends Game, which happens every summer at The Dome at Madison Square.
Dunbar Coach Bob Wade said, “Kosher taught Muggs a lot, including how to steal the ball from opponents.” He added, “In fact, Muggs credits Kosher. He did a lot to help him with his basketball game. I believe Muggs looked up to Kosher.”
Wood, a three-year varsity letterman at Dunbar, was the 1980 Player of the Year. He was raised in Lafayette Projects and taught by the one and only Mr. Leon Howard.
Kosher told BMORENews, “I have to give my backcourt mate, Kevin ‘Duke’ Bush, some love.” He said, “We played together from 10 through 23.”
