(TOWSON – September 21, 2023) – Mo’s Seafood in Towson was the site of tonight’s Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards by BMORENews.com. It was a magnificent event with some timely conversation regarding the State of Black America.

A. Rod Womack and Bob Ingram, both honorees, gave their insight. These men have known each other for decades and have been longstanding giants in the entrepreneurial community. They gave their insight on business, our youth, and on the future. So, too, did Bianca Wise. Mark Booker, a Ph.D. candidate and college professor who works teaching inmates at the Jessup House of Corrections, gave his two cents.

Clearly, our youth are facing perils many of us cannot even imagine. That was talked about. The fact that many of our young people are raising themselves; that was discussed, too. How we regard our seniors: Yep, that was also put on the table.

To say the least, it was a very intellectual edition of the Black Wall Street Awards. The resumes of the people in the room touched a number of industries and were full of accomplishments. Everyone was well dressed and poised. The private dining room was donned by some brilliant people who are simply trying to do their part. The event was a pleasant reminder that there is indeed hope for Black people. Maybe we need to revisit some basic values, but clearly, this is a whole new generation on the rise now and we older brothers and sisters are going to have to be very surgical if we want to connect with them.

As was said at the event, these young people today have a different mentality. The older folk are going to have to be a bit more creative if we are to truly connect with them. No doubt, they need us … adults. So, we have to act like adults.

There’s enough blame to go around, but the bottom line is that no one is coming to save us. Hence, we’d better save ourselves. Common sense suggests if we do it together, it can be easier. If we all bring our gifts and talents to the table and work together, then we can make some progress. After all, teamwork makes the dream work!
