Randallstown couple has served more than 11,000 families through 25 years of early childhood education
(RANDALLSTOWN – March 5, 2026) – For 25 years, Michele and Virgil Davis have built something special in Randallstown — a learning community dedicated to nurturing young minds and strengthening families. Through their organization, Sweet Potato Kids Inc., the husband-and-wife team has served more than 11,000 scholars and their families across Northwest Baltimore County, making them fitting recipients of the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Award at Black Wall Street MILFORD MILL.
Located at 9631 Liberty Road in Randallstown, Sweet Potato Kids is far more than a childcare center. It is a full-service educational hub offering high-quality preschool programming, before- and after-school care with transportation, and summer programs for school-age children.
The mission is clear: to create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment that supports the whole child while fostering active learning.
Over the past two and a half decades, the impact of that mission has been felt throughout the community.
Sweet Potato Kids is a Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and an MSDE-accredited program that currently operates as an approved before- and after-care provider for Baltimore County Public Schools in eight elementary schools. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization remained open as an essential childcare site, providing critical support to working families amid uncertainty.
The organization’s community engagement extends even further. Sweet Potato Kids has served as a toy drive site for Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones, and the program has received national recognition — including an invitation to the White House during National Childcare Week and a feature on the electronic billboard in Times Square.
For the Davises, this work is deeply personal.
Both are proud graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Michele Hall-Davis earned her undergraduate degree from North Carolina Central University, while Virgil Davis graduated from North Carolina A&T State University. Both later earned master’s degrees — Michele from DePaul University in Chicago and Virgil from Webster University in St. Louis.
Their educational journeys helped shape the principles that guide their work today.
According to the Davises, their mission is rooted in four core values:

• A love of learning
• Bridging opportunity and achievement gaps
• Fostering equitable outcomes for children
• Disrupting disparities in education
Those principles have helped Sweet Potato Kids become one of the region’s most trusted early childhood learning providers.
For BMORENews and the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards, honoring Michele and Virgil Davis is about recognizing entrepreneurs and educators who quietly transform communities every day.
Across Milford Mill, Randallstown, and Northwest Baltimore County, thousands of families already know what Sweet Potato Kids represents.
It represents care, commitment, and a belief in the unlimited potential of every child.
After 25 years of service, Michele and Virgil Davis continue to demonstrate that investing in children is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen a community.
