In short, we celebrate Black entrepreneurs and professionals as well as the people who support them regardless of race. Since its inception in 2011, we have recognized over 2,500 individuals in 9 US cities. Honorees receive the coveted Joe Manns Black Wall Street Award.
We aim to inspire entrepreneurship beginning in the Black community and help preserve little-known Black Wall Street history from a national perspective. BMORENews publisher Doni Glover wrote about this national and international perspective in the 2021 book “I Am Black Wall Street”.
Special thanks to Rondy Griffin and Sean Stinnett.
Limited seating. Meals are the responsibility of the guests. RSVP ASAP.
Honorees include A. Rod Womack.
Who is Rod?
A. Rod Womack is a serial entrepreneur and published author. He and a high school friend launched their first company in the mid-80s. The small landscaping company they started in his parent’s basement quickly expanded and a few years later encompassed a large swath of Anne Arundel County, Md. The company was later sold for a profit.
After graduating from UMBC with a degree in philosophy, A. Rod connected with a couple of friends from Black Professional Men to purchase a struggling restaurant called the Redwood Grill. Within six months, the three partners turned Redwood into arguably one of the most popular and successful restaurants of the mid-90s.
In 1998, the partners decided it was time to sell Redwood. In 2001 A. Rod Womack launched his first real estate investment company. That company grew into what became C.I.M.G. C.I.M.G began developing real estate in various parts of Baltimore City. By 2006 the company was engaged in several multifamily projects ranging from 47 units to 160 units.
After the crash of the economy in 2008, A. Rod Womack decided it was time to pursue his life-long passion for writing. That year, he began writing his first non-fiction novel entitled “Redwood” which was completed in 2014 and published a year later in 2015. Redwood is an exhilarating journey into the world of restaurant ownership and entrepreneurism. The book sold in Barnes and Noble and on Amazon and still holds a 4.5 out of 5.0 rating.
In 2010 A. Rod left the private sector and worked as a Business Liaison for Baltimore City Schools and was later appointed Managing Director of Food and Nutrition for Baltimore City Schools. His many years of experience as an entrepreneur, combined with his fascinating life experiences, brought an uncommon thread of practicality and commitment to this work. Today A. Rod Womack is partner in a number of businesses and is the sole owner of Dreambuilders Residential Solutions. The company primarily focuses on residential rehab of properties throughout Baltimore City and is currently completing a manuscript for his second novel.
