(BALTIMORE – November 10, 2024)—Be sure to RSVP for BMORENews.com’s Black Wall Street SOIREE, our annual fundraiser to support our Joe Manns Black Wall Street initiative, on Thursday, December 5, 2024 (6 to 9 pm) at the Downtown Cultural Arts Center at 401 N. Howard Street. RSVP to https://blackwallstreetsoiree.eventbrite.com/.
As always, the event will feature the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards, where we celebrate Black entrepreneurs and professionals as well as the people who support them regardless of race.
Honorees will include Harley Flack, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Stella May Contracting Inc.
While Mr. Flack will not be able to attend, he is sending representatives to receive the award. He sent this wonderful note:
Doni,
First, I would like to thank BMORENews.com and Maryland-Washington Minority Companies Association (MWMCA) for nominating me for such a prestigious and significant award. I am pleased that Stella May Contracting and my entire team have such a demonstrative effect on employing team members across all walks representing our communities. Black entrepreneurship is a hallmark and attribute that, at Stella May Contracting, we “Lean into it.” From our new apprentice program to the mentorship program at Stella May, we provide a pathway for Black, brown, and multicultural team members to learn, grow, and succeed. Often, these efforts build on entrepreneurial attributes that pre-exist employment at Stella May Contracting.
The Joe Mann award, which “embodies the ethos of boldness, audacity, and collaboration,” further represents Stella May’s growth as one of the largest private employers in Baltimore, now boasting a diversity of more than 40% throughout the 300-person-plus organization. This is a tremendously bold and audacious accomplishment from my first days as CEO at Stella May Contracting, where in 2016, there were only two diverse employees in the fifty-person construction company. Trailblazers like Wayne and Patricia Frazier, entrepreneurs themselves, are keenly aware of their communities and those companies in the region that are working to make a meaningful difference in how and what workforces look like. Unfortunately, as of this writing, I will be on scheduled International Travel and unable to attend the event personally. I would like to send some of my Executive Team along with my partner, Christian Johansson, to represent me and the company offering any appropriate remarks on my behalf. I applaud BMORENews for taking such an important initiative, furthering the conversation, and ensuring entrepreneurship and the efforts of trailblazers are recognized and acknowledged.
Thank you again for the nomination and my team looks forward to attending the event on December 5th.
With kindest regards,
Harley Flack
