Indigenous Series: Grandma Said We’re Indian

Tonight, we pick up the conversation: Are we Moors? Are we Hebrews? Are we Indigenous? Because Grandma said we’re Indian.

For the past year, we have explored this question, and the more we discuss it, the deeper and more compelling the conversation becomes.

On one end of the spectrum are the diehard Afrocentrics, who firmly trace our identity and ancestry to Africa. On the other end are those who insist that we have absolutely no connection to Africa.

And then there are those of us in the middle—sifting through the history, sorting through the claims, raising difficult questions, seeking evidence, and searching for answers.

This is not about forcing everyone to accept one conclusion. It is about examining what we were taught, listening to what our families told us, challenging conventional narratives, and following the truth wherever it leads.
