For generations, Indigenous people throughout America were reclassified, renamed and written out of history. Families were told they were Black, Colored, Negro, mulatto—anything except Indian.

Tonight, we examine how government records, racial classifications and “paper genocide” helped erase Indigenous identities while the bloodlines, family stories and truth survived.

They changed our names—but they could not change who we are.
