TGR: 11 City Schools Closed Because of No A/C
“Since its inception in 1973, the Maryland Lottery has awarded more than $33.2 billion in prizes to players and generated more than $19.3 billion in Lottery profits to the State of Maryland.”

(BALTIMORE – September 5, 2023) – As a Marylander, I am absolutely confounded that, once again, I am hearing of school closures in Baltimore City because of a lack of air conditioning. To say the least, we have failed our children. And there is absolutely no excuse.

Back in 1973 when the lottery was first being pushed onto citizens, the critical promise from proponents that I can never forget was money for education.

According to MDLottery.com, “Since its inception in 1973, the Maryland Lottery has awarded more than $33.2 billion in prizes to players and generated more than $19.3 billion in Lottery profits to the State of Maryland.”

The lottery has helped produce a new football stadium and a new baseball stadium. Yet, we have 11 schools in the city that will not be open because of a lack of cool air.

To add insult to injury, we now have slots, table gambling, and sports betting in Maryland to generate even more revenue for the state.

Clearly, our priorities are out of sync with our so-called values.

If we genuinely cared about our children, if we truly cared about the violence in these streets – including the Brooklyn Park mass shooting – then we would have put our schools higher on our list of priorities. Clearly, there are those who do not give a rat’s bottom about our children, and it is so obvious.

Way to go, Maryland!
