(BALTIMORE – August 9, 2025) – On August 9, 2002, BMORENews.com was born — built to tell our truth when others wouldn’t. While some papers had to issue long-overdue apologies for decades of underreporting and misrepresenting the Black community, we never had to. From day one, BMORENews has been unapologetically for us, by us — chronicling our victories, our struggles, and our legends.
That’s why it’s only right we celebrate this milestone at The Basketball Legends of Baltimore at Madison Square, aka The Dome. This is home. This is history. And this year, we honor that history by giving back — bring canned goods for the Bea Gaddy Foundation and help feed families across Baltimore.
When I talk about Dunbar, I’m not speaking as an outsider. I was there in ’81 — walking into a place where football and basketball were a way of life, where talent stretched from the court to the diamond. I caught Eric Green’s 90 mph fastball. I watched Coach Bob Wade’s masterful squads — the Dawson brothers, David Wingate, Reggie Lewis, Darryl Woods, Gary Graham, Mike Brown, Keith James, Eric Green, Gerard Marable — play like something out of a movie. Men like Coach Wade made sure we stayed on the right path, steering us from the streets while pushing us toward greatness.
That same spirit — community, excellence, and legacy — is what BMORENews has carried for 23 years. And on this day, in this place, we celebrate it together.
