WELCOME listeners to today’s episode of the Black Business Roundtable! I am your host Doug Blacksher broadcasting to you LIVE from the city of Diversity Oakland California! Big Shout Out too our Brothers and Sisters working in the Travel and Tourism sector and the Convention and Meeting Planning industry our show focus today!

Today’s Show Highlights:
The Pandemic basically brought all elements of the Travel and Tourism industry to its knees. The Convention and Meeting Planning industry did not go unscathed and today we discuss this with a Certified Meeting Planner, from CHI-TOWN (Chicago)! Also today we have the co-owner of a LOCAL Travel and Consulting Company Specializing in both International and Domestic group travel and Special events.

Discussing the economic impact of “Travel and Tourism” in our community today is ATTORNEY Janani Ramachandran. A Friend of the Show and a Social Justice Attorney and Community Activist. She has earned a degree from Stanford University and U.C. Berkeley School of Law and has served on the Oakland Public Ethics Committee and presently on the CA Commission on Asian Pacific Islander American Affairs. www.JananiForCA.com

For the first time on our show today is Aleta D. Harris-Finley, CMP, PCA – she graduated from Wayne State University, in Detroit, MI, with a B.A. in Public Administration in 1996 and obtained her meeting certification (CMP) in 2011. Her career started in government working for several elected politicians in Michigan, she transitioned to hospitality to keep the mindset of serving others. Mrs. Harris-Finley’s, hospitality career has spanned almost 20 years and her titles have included: Meeting Planner, Manager, Senior Manager and Director of Meetings. She has held positions at several noteworthy associations including the “American Bar Association” and presently the “American College of Surgeons.” Mrs. Harris-Finley speaks at industry events on topics of leadership and returning to safe and healthy meetings by developing Health Security Plans and Procedures. In addition she received certification as a Pandemic Compliance Advisory (PCA) from the Health Education Services.

Another first timer on our show today is Kay Barrett is the Co-Owner of “Unique Travel Services” which was started in June of 1997 and has been in business just shy of 25 years. The company Specializes in both International and Domestic group travel and Special events. The travel business has taken her to The Middle East, Europe, Bahamas, Mexican Riviera and Majority of the United States. Ms. Barrett is also a 30+ year member of the Bay Area chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc., and serves as the Regional Financial Secretary and as the local Gamma Chi Chapter, President. Ms. Barrett, participates in many Charity events throughout the year and gives back to her Community of Oakland CA. Ms. Barrett, graduated from California State University Hayward, CA with her Bachelors in Sociology/Social Work.
