BALTIMORE: HBO’s “The Wire” Only Tells Part of the Story

What happens when you let outsiders tell your story? They only see the surface. They fail to see beyond the real deal, including a segregated history that was so insidious that its housing policies were replicated across the country. Outsiders give the Baltimore Police Department a pass, even when it has been shown that the cops are sometimes worse than the so-called criminals. And us locals also question a coroner’s office that suggested that Detective Sean Suiter and millionaire Bob Clay committed suicide. Highly unlikely! Black millionaires ain’t blowing their brains out, typically. And Washingtonians ain’t going out sideways in a filthy West Baltimore alley. Not happening. What we have here is utter BS. Ad the Consent Decree has been a joke. One minute, cops locking up Black people like it’s going out of style, now they have taken a knee because they were called out publicly on their deadly tactics. Baltimore can do better but there is a deep, cancerous corruption stain on cops, one that will take a while to correct itself. Right now, Baltimore is nothing like it used to be. Too often, we have ineffective politicians who only care about themselves. The truth is that Baltimoreans are some of the most resilient people on earth. We love hard. We fight hard. We work hard. It ain’t complicated! #GoRavens
