Eastside Basketball Coach John Murdock at Oliver Recreation Center, Baltimore

Known to many as “Coach,” “Big Murt,” or simply “Poochie,” John Murdock has dedicated his life to mentoring Baltimore’s youth through the game of basketball. For over five decades, he’s been a fixture at Oliver Recreation Center and throughout East Baltimore — shaping players, building character, and creating opportunities for young people on and off the court.

Though he calls West Baltimore home, East Baltimore is where his heart beats — a community he has poured into for generations.
